It marks the portal of the Buddhist temple and honours the memory of former Hong Kong Governor Sir Cecil Clementi who visited Qingshan Chanyuan in 1927 and 1928. “Xianghai Mingshan” is the inscription by Sir Cecil Clementi, and “Huitou Xian” [Repentance is Salvation] on the other side was written by Tiechan Fashi [Dharma master Tit Xim]. The Pailou, built in 1929, is the oldest of its kind in Hong Kong. Shiwan ceramic statues on the ridge are very rare in Hong Kong. The lifelike statues include characters in the Fengshen Yanyi [The Romance of the Enfeoffment as Deities] such as Jiang Jiya as commander, Nazha, Yang Jian, Li Jing and Lei Zhenzi. |
